Government
Commissions
The Local Government Act authorizes the RDCK to establish commissions to fulfill delegated governance functions and provide operational oversight of some RDCK services. RDCK Commissions also serve in advisory capacity to the Board and act as an information conduit between the Board, RDCK staff, and local communities.
Commission membership is sometimes comprised of one or more Directors representing a Commission’s service area. In many cases, the Board may appoint other members, such as residents in the service area, to ensure that the vision and interests of the community are well represented.
Commissions are established through the RDCK Board adopting a bylaw which describes the Commission’s mandate, membership, and any powers or duties delegated by the Board.
The RDCK has established Commissions in the following general areas:

- Advisory Planning and Heritage
- Agricultural Advisory
