Recreation Grants

Recreation Commissions are local Commissions established by the RDCK Board to advise on local recreation and/or park operation needs of the community. Recreation Commissions serve the communities of the Regional District and carry out recreational programming activities and provide financial contributions to groups providing recreational programs on behalf of the Commission.

Based upon the specific bylaw the Commission can consider applications from eligible non-profit organizations, societies and clubs within the Commissions service area. The following Commissions offer Recreation Grants:

  • Recreation Commission 4 – Nakusp & Area K
  • Recreation Commission 6 – Area H, New Denver, & Silverton (Slocan Lake)
  • Recreation Commission 7 – Salmo & Area G
  • Recreation Commission 9 – Area A, East Shore Kootenay Lake
  • Recreation Commission 10 – Portion of Area E – Procter, Harrop, Balfour, & Queens Bay

Eligible non-profit organizations, societies and clubs serving the relevant areas listed may apply for recreation program funding.

  • Spring – for projects/programs running in Summer and Fall
  • Fall – for projects/programs running in Winter and Spring
  • There are generally two grant cycles per year for each Commission. Not all Recreation Commissions have two (2) grant cycles per year. Please contact 250.352.1574 or recreationgrants@rdck.bc.ca for up to date information.


Application deadlines differ for each Recreation Commission. Refer to the table below or contact 250.352.1574 for further details.

Each Commission will evaluate submissions at the Commission meeting immediately following the deadline date below. Applicants may attend the meeting.

  • The applicant has demonstrated that there is a significant community recreational, park or trail need for this program/event/project and it fills a gap that is not currently covered or duplicated by other services within their community.
  • The project plays a unique role specific to the community. The project serves and involves the community.
  • The budget has included admission/registration fees.
  • The applicant has leveraged additional resources (i.e., capital project has matching funds for requested amount).
  • Final Reports are up to date and complete.
  • Is this a new applicant (higher score)? Is this a repeat candidate (lower score)?

Organizations in receipt of Recreation Grant funding are required to submit a final financial report for each project supported with Recreation Grant funding. The report must be completed in its entirety including financial statement information, project outcome details, accompanied by copies of receipts/invoices that provide details and proof of how all the funding was utilized. Project expenditures supported by Recreation Grant funding need to have incurred during the noted project period.
