Local Conservation Fund

Local Conservation Fund
A Local Conservation Fund is a local government service funded through a dedicated tax and used to support local conservation projects that reflect local priorities, such as:
- Protecting clean water sources
- Conserving natural areas
- Restoring fish and wildlife habitat
- Supporting climate action through nature-based solutions
- Land acquisition of ecologically, significant properties
The RDCK partners with the Kootenay Conservation Program to support funding for high priority local conservation projects in Electoral Areas A, D, E, F, and H. From 2016 to 2023 almost $610,000 has been put towards local conservations projects. Proponents must be a registered non-profit organization, First Nation, or local government. Unqualified groups or organizations may partner with a qualified organization.
