Public Notices & Advisories
In accordance with the Community Charter (CC) Section 94, the RDCK is formally required by legislation to share Official Public Notices. These are informational documents published in advance of matters of public interest such as public meetings, elections, annual report on RDCK finances, Alternative Approval Process, assent vote, public hearings, facility closure, and disposition of land. These notices are generally intended to inform the public of opportunities to share their views and/or participate in local government decision making. Bylaw No. 2966 requires the RDCK to post Public Notices by the following methods:
- Printed in the local newspaper for one week;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK website;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK Facebook page and;
- Posted on the Public Notice Posting Place at RDCK offices.

ELECTORAL AREA H DANGEROUS AND AGGRESSIVE DOG CONTROL SERVICE
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of Electoral Area H of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) that an Assent Vote will be held to determine if the electors are in favour of the RDCK Board adopting Electoral Area H Dangerous and Aggressive Dog Control Service Establishment Bylaw No. 3066, 2025.
The vote will be conducted in accordance with Local Government (LGA) Part 4—Assent Vote.
The question asked, on the ballot, to obtain assent of the electors will be:
Electoral Area H Dangerous and Aggressive Dog Control Service Establishment Bylaw No. 3066, 2025 will allow the Regional District to establish a service for the regulation of Dangerous and Aggressive Dogs in Electoral Area H and to establish a maximum annual allowable requisition not to exceed the greater of $ 109,741 or the amount resulting from a rate of $0.077/$1,000 applied to the actual net taxable value of land and improvements in the service area.

Voting by Mail
Electors wishing to vote by mail ballot must apply to the RDCK before May 27th, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Ballots must be returned to the RDCK at Box 590, 202 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC V1L 5R4 by 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026. In the event that ballots cannot be returned by mail they may be hand delivered to 202 Lakeside Drive in Nelson, BC by 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026.
To Participate You Must Qualify As A Resident Elector or a Non-Resident Elector
Resident Electors must meet all the following requirements:
- You are a Canadian citizen;
- You are 18 years of age or older on or before general voting day;
- You are a resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately prior to the day of registration;
- You are a resident of Electoral Area H; and
- You are not disqualified by the LGA or any other Act from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-Resident Electors must meet all of the following requirements:
- You are a Canadian citizen;
- You are 18 years of age or older on or before general voting day;
- You have lived in BC for at least 6 months immediately prior to the day of registration;
- You have been a registered owner of real property within Electoral Area H for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration;
- You must only register in relation to one piece of property in the jurisdiction;
- If more than one person owns the property, only one owner may register and that person must have the written consent of a majority of the other owners; and
- You are not disqualified by the LGA or any other Act from voting in an election or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Electoral Area H Dangerous and Aggressive Dog Control Service Establishment Bylaw No. 3066, 2025 establishes a service for the regulation of dangerous and aggressive dogs in Electoral Area H of the RDCK.
This synopsis is not intended to be and are not deemed to be an interpretation of the Bylaw.

Applying To Volunteer as a Scrutineer:
Applications will be received by the Chief Elections Officer from April 14 to April 24, 2026 at 202 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, B.C. during regular office hours or by email at elections@rdck.bc.ca.

Notice of Application Period to Volunteer as a Scrutineer PDF
Notice of Closure of Advance Voter Registration:
Advance registration closes at 4:00 pm on April 8, 2026. After this time, elector registrations must be completed on voting days. The RDCK uses the Provincial Voters List as its List of Electors. If you are not on the voters list and would like to vote please go to https://elections.bc.ca.
To participate you must be a resident or non-resident property owner within Electoral Area H. For elector qualifications and the proposed service area please visit the RDCK website.
Notice of Period of Inspection of the Electors List:
Beginning April 13, 2026 until the close of assent voting on May 30, 2026, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the RDCK office in Nelson, from 8:30 am to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not make copies or use the information included in the list except for the purposes described in Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
Request to Omit or Obscure Personal Information:
An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
Objection to the Registration of an Elector:
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 pm on April 24th, 2026. An objection must be in writing and an objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of an electoral area of the RDCK and only on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of an electoral area of the RDCK.

Closure of Advance Elector Registration & Inspection of the Electors List PDF
An assent vote has been scheduled for Saturday, May 30th 2026 to seek elector approval for the establishment of a Dangerous and Aggressive Dog Control Service.
ADVANCE ELECTOR REGISTRATION:
Advance registration closes at 4:00 p.m. on April 7th, 2026. After this time, elector registrations must be completed on voting days. The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) uses the Provincial Voters List as its List of Electors. If you are not on the voters and would like to vote please go to https://elections.bc.ca.
ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:
You must be a resident or non-resident property owner within Electoral Area H.
Resident electors must be:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
- a Canadian citizen;
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
- a resident of the proposed service area; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-resident property electors must be:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
- a Canadian citizen;
- a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
- a registered owner of real property in the proposed service area for at least 30 days before the day of registration; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
If there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector. Only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are eligible. Persons holding property in trust for a corporation or trust are ineligible to participate as non-resident property electors.
LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS:
Beginning April 14th until the close of assent voting on May 30th, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the RDCK office in Nelson, from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.—4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Prior to inspection a person is required to acknowledge, by signed agreement, that making copies of the list is not allowed; and further that the information on the electors list may only be used in accordance with purposes established in the Local Government Act.
REQUEST TO OMIT OR OBSCURE PERSONAL INFORMATION:
An elector may request their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
