Public Notices & Advisories
In accordance with the Community Charter (CC) Section 94, the RDCK is formally required by legislation to share Official Public Notices. These are informational documents published in advance of matters of public interest such as public meetings, elections, annual report on RDCK finances, Alternative Approval Process, assent vote, public hearings, facility closure, and disposition of land. These notices are generally intended to inform the public of opportunities to share their views and/or participate in local government decision making. Bylaw No. 2966 requires the RDCK to post Public Notices by the following methods:
- Printed in the local newspaper for one week;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK website;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK Facebook page and;
- Posted on the Public Notice Posting Place at RDCK offices.
2026 General Local Elections
General Local Elections have been scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026 to elect Directors for Electoral Areas A-K in the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), and Trustees of School Districts 8, 10 & 20.

Public Notice is hereby given that nominations for the offices of Regional District Director Electoral Areas A through K will be received by the Chief Elections Officer or their designate.
Nomination packages are available for download from the RDCK website.
Paper copy nomination packages are available at the following Regional District Offices:

Completed electronic or paper nominations must be submitted from 9:00 a.m. September 1 to 4:00 p.m. September 11 for verification.

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
· Canadian citizen;
· 18 years of age or older on October 17, 2026;
· Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months before the day nomination papers are filed;
· Not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the campaign expense limit for candidates is $6,161.89 The third party advertising limit is $924.28.

ADVANCE ELECTOR REGISTRATION:
Advance registration closes at 4:00 pm on August 18, 2026. After this time, elector registrations must be completed on voting days. The RDCK uses the Provincial Voters List as its List of Electors. ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:
You may register to vote either as a resident elector or a non-resident property elector.
Resident electors must be:
· 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
· a Canadian citizen;
· a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
· a resident of a RDCK electoral area or school district; and
· not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-resident property electors must be:
· 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
· a Canadian citizen;
· a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
· a registered owner of real property in the RDCK for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
· not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
If there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector. The only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust.
LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS:
Beginning September 1st until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the RDCK office in Nelson, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and 1:30 pm-4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, make copies, or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
REQUEST TO OMIT OR OBSCURE PERSONAL INFORMATION:
An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
OBJECTION TO THE REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR:
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 pm on September 11, 2026. An objection must be in writing and an objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the an electoral area of the RDCK and only on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of an electoral area of the RDCK.
