Public Notices & Advisories
In accordance with the Community Charter (CC) Section 94, the RDCK is formally required by legislation to share Official Public Notices. These are informational documents published in advance of matters of public interest such as public meetings, elections, annual report on RDCK finances, Alternative Approval Process, assent vote, public hearings, facility closure, and disposition of land. These notices are generally intended to inform the public of opportunities to share their views and/or participate in local government decision making. Bylaw No. 2966 requires the RDCK to post Public Notices by the following methods:
- Printed in the local newspaper for one week;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK website;
- Electronically by posting on the RDCK Facebook page and;
- Posted on the Public Notice Posting Place at RDCK offices.
Notice of Consideration Temporary Use Permit T2602F
Purpose of Permit: To allow for the construction of two accessory building on the property prior to establishing a principal residential use for up to three years.

Notice of Zoning Bylaw Amendment – Bylaw No. 3080 PDF
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT a Bylaw to amend RDCK Zoning Bylaw No.1675 has been scheduled for first, second and third reading on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 9:00am at the RDCK Board Room at 202 Lakeside Drive in Nelson, BC. The application will also be considered they day before at the Rural Affairs Committee (RAC) meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2025 at 9:00am at the RDCK Board Room at 202 Lakeside Drive in Nelson, BC.
RDCK Board and RAC meetings are available for all members of the public to attend or watch electronically via a Zoom. The proposed amendment complies with Section 464(2) of the Local Government Act and this Notice is provided in accordance with section 467 of the Local Government Act.
Property Location: 1625 Highway 3A, Thurms, Electoral Area ‘I’
Purpose: To rezone the property from Country Residential I (R2I) to Country Residential I (R2I) Site Specific to allow a third residence to be constructed on the subject property.

2026 General Local Elections
General Local Elections have been scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026 to elect Directors for Electoral Areas A-K in the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), and Trustees of School Districts 8, 10 & 20.
PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) that an Election by Voting is necessary to elect Directors for Electoral Areas A, B, C,E, G, H, J and K, for terms commencing October 2026 and terminating after the general election in 2030, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom the votes will be received are:

Elector Registration
If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application forms available at the voting place or on the RDCK Website. To register you must meet the following qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
- Canadian citizen;
- resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration;
- resident of OR registered owner of real property in the RDCK for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act (LGA) or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.
To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
Pursuant to the LGA, no corporation is entitled to be registered as an elector or have a representative registered as an elector and no corporation is entitled to vote.
Voting by Mail
The RDCK has enacted a bylaw which authorizes voting by mail ballot and establishes the procedures to do so. Mail ballot voting packages are available from September 17, 2026 to October 14, 2026 @ 4:00 p.m.
Ballots must be mailed to the RDCK at Box 590, 202 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC V1L 5R4 by 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026 by 8:00 p.m.
In the event that ballots cannot be returned by mail they may be hand delivered to 202 Lakeside Drive in Nelson or to the appropriate voting station within the Electoral Area you are voting by Saturday, October 17, 2026 by 8:00 p.m.

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
· Canadian citizen;
· 18 years of age or older on October 17, 2026;
· Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months before the day nomination papers are filed;
· Not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Election, the campaign expense limit for candidates is $6,161.89 The third party advertising limit is $924.28.

ADVANCE ELECTOR REGISTRATION:
Advance registration closes at 4:00 pm on August 18, 2026. After this time, elector registrations must be completed on voting days. The RDCK uses the Provincial Voters List as its List of Electors. ELECTOR QUALIFICATIONS:
You may register to vote either as a resident elector or a non-resident property elector.
Resident electors must be:
· 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
· a Canadian citizen;
· a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
· a resident of a RDCK electoral area or school district; and
· not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-resident property electors must be:
· 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
· a Canadian citizen;
· a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration;
· a registered owner of real property in the RDCK for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
· not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
If there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector. The only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust.
LIST OF REGISTERED ELECTORS:
Beginning September 1st until the close of general voting for the election on October 17, a copy of the list of registered electors will be available for public inspection, at the RDCK office in Nelson, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and 1:30 pm-4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.
Before inspecting the list, a person must sign a statement that they will not inspect the list, make copies, or use the information included in the list except for the purposes of Part 3 – Electors and Elections of the Local Government Act.
REQUEST TO OMIT OR OBSCURE PERSONAL INFORMATION:
An elector may request that their address or other personal information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors. The elector must contact the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer to make this request.
OBJECTION TO THE REGISTRATION OF AN ELECTOR:
An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 pm on September 11, 2026. An objection must be in writing and an objection may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector of the an electoral area of the RDCK and only on the basis that a person whose name appears on the list of electors has died or is not qualified to register as an elector of an electoral area of the RDCK.
