The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is currently delivering the Erickson Universal Metering Project, supported by $3,502,332 from the Province of B.C.’s Water Meter Pilot Project. The provincial funding covers 100% of Phase 2, which includes installation of 506 meters and will complete universal metering of the Erickson Water System.

Phase 1 of the project is substantially complete and included 136 meters on industrial, commercial, institutional and agricultural services, with costs covered through senior government grant funding.

“Erickson continues to face water supply challenges from high summer demand and reduced flows in Arrow Creek,” said Alex Divlakovski, RDCK Water Operations Manager. “Metering will help identify leaks, better understand water use and support conservation during critical summer months. We are targeting a 15–20% reduction in water use while maintaining the current flat-rate billing structure for users.”

Erickson is one of nineteen small, rural and First Nations communities participating in the Province’s $50-million Water Meter Pilot Project. The RDCK will also participate in a provincial research initiative examining the benefits and challenges of water metering in small communities, with results to be shared with water suppliers across B.C.

The RDCK uses Voyent Alert! for its Emergency Notification System, a mass-notification system that allows the RDCK to send out critical information to residents and visitors in the event of an emergency.
