2024 Construction Updates

Update: Slocan Transfer Station will be closed for construction starting October 5th, scheduled to re-open in December.

This Summer, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) began upgrades to the Nakusp Landfill and Rosebery Transfer Station; both of these projects are now complete and Rosebery is scheduled for re-opening on October 5th.

Starting October 5th, the Slocan Recycling and Transfer Station will be closed for construction and scheduled to re-open in December.

The projects, presented in the RDCK’s 2021 Resource Recovery Plan, were to replace aging infrastructure, increase site capacity, and improve the efficiency of waste management in the area.

The Nakusp Landfill upgrades included the development of a new tipping area, addition of compacting bins, recycling area improvements, upgrades to site roads, security upgrades, electric fencing and gates.

The Rosebery Transfer Station upgrades included the addition of a compactor bin, expansion of the tipping area to include a yard and garden waste bin, adjustment to the access road, and installation of site surveillance.

Work at the Slocan Transfer Station (October - late December) will include replacement of the facility`s aging bin wall and installation of a new staff washroom.

The RDCK will accommdate service disruptions through increased hours of operation and staffing at the closest neighbouring facility for both waste and recycling, if required.
