Work the 2026 election

Election workers play a vital role in helping eligible residents participate in the RDCK 2026 General Local Election.

The RDCK general local election is for eligible voters in Electoral Areas A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I , J and K.

Paid opportunities are available for both Advance Voting and General Voting Day, and training will be provided.

Whether you have previous election experience or are applying for the first time, there are a variety of roles available, and you may be a great fit.

What you need to know to work the election

Election workers are needed for:

  • Election Official Training: (2 hour training session – training details will be shared with successful applicants.)
  • Advanced Voting Day: Wednesday, October 7, 2026
  • Advanced Voting Day: Wednesday, October 14, 2026
  • General Voting Day: Saturday, October 17, 2026

Polls are open:

Election workers: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Voting takes place from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Voting Stations for each Electoral Area and School Trustee Election include:

NOTE: Voting Stations will be posted here after the declaration of candidates on September 11, 2026.

Presiding election official (PEO)

Prior election experience required.

Responsibilities include:

  • completing ballot accounting
  • overseeing voting station operations
  • supervising election staff
  • ensuring election procedures are followed

Election Official (EO)

No prior election experience required.

Responsibilities include:

  • assisting with voter registration
  • distributing ballots
  • supporting voters
  • setting up and closing voting locations

Election workers should:

  • be reliable and punctual
  • be comfortable working with the public
  • be able to follow election procedures
  • be able to remain neutral and professional
  • attend required training

Prior election experience is only required for certain roles.

Training is required, and will be provided for all election workers.

Training details will be shared with successful applicants.

How much do election workers get paid?

  • Election Official (EO): No previous election experience required ($351.12/voting day).
  • Presiding Election Official (PEO): Previous election experience required ($438.90/voting day).
  • Election Officials Training (2 hrs) $30

Can I choose which role I apply for?

Yes. Applicants may indicate which role they are interested in. Placement will depend on experience and operational needs.

Do I need to be an RDCK resident?

No. The election officials do not have to be a resident of the municipality, regional district, or electoral area where they are working, unless a local government has identified it as a requirement in their election bylaw or policy.
