Permit Application

Notice for Applicants:

As of May 1, 2023, as per the updated BC Building Code the RDCK requires every new building to deliver a level of energy-efficiency performance equivalent to 20% more energy efficient over a 2018 baseline building. Small residential homes (Part 9) are required to meet Step 3, with more complex buildings (Part 3) required to meet Step 2. Please see the Step Code page for more details.

Applications for Building Permits are available online or at the respective offices. If you are unsure when a permit is required please review the Building Brochure. Construction must not commence before a building permit has been issued and paid for.  In order to ensure expedient permit processing time a completed application is required.  Delays occur when information or documentation is not provided or is not adequate.

An application submitted for a building permit must be accompanied by the appropriate plan-check deposit fee described in Schedule “A” to Building Bylaw No. 2200, 2010. This fee is non-refundable and must be credited against the building permit fee when the permit is issued. The balance of the permit fee is due at time of permit issuance.  Fee to be paid by cheque, cash, debit card or online through your bank.
