Search for Sasquatch

Sasquatch is on the loose and hiding out on one of our favorite trails, in one of our popular parks or possibly even at our local watering hole. Throughout the month of November, get outside and spend some time searching for our sneaky friends within one of RDCK’s regional parks.

Each week a new clue will be revealed on the Regional District of Central Kootenay Facebook page, as well as in the facility, to help narrow down their hiding spots. Try your best to be the first one to find our friends in this “Search for Sasquatch” competition.

Start your search! Snowball and Koots will be in one of our 27 Regional Parks or the 3 Regional Trails starting in November. Find out more about our parks and trails and download a map here.

Sasquatch hunters, good luck!

New Clues for the 2025 hunt are here!

Clue 3: November 14, 2025

Koots: The Brilliant Bridge originally opened in 1913 as a huge achievement in establishing a transportation link on both sides of the Kootenay River. The bridge is spectacular, but I like to hang out on land rather than directly on it!

Snowball: I thoroughly enjoy coming to this lake any time of year, whether the weather is nice or rather drear. That is because there are two beautiful shelters to stay warm and dry, so if the weather goes south there’s no need to cry. You can find me by the older of the two, but that is all I can tell you for this 3 clue.

Clue 2: November 7, 2025

Koots: From where I sit, this is what I see.  It is going to be a lovely week, so come out and find me!

Snowball: This is my view from where I stand.  Yes, one of the prettiest places in all the land!

Clue 1: November 1, 2025

Koots: I just had a BRILLIANT idea for the month of November.  I am going to hang out in one of my favourite places to view the gorgeous Kootenay Fall colors, before the Fall season BRIDGES over to Winter.

Snowball: I am back in the wild and looking for one of my good friends the cottontail rabbit.  COTTONWOOD (that’s his name) and I go way back and have had some good times together.  Like, this one time, when we were out on the LAKE in the canoe and I threw a rubber snake at him and he got so scared he jumped right out of the canoe into the water! I still laugh at that one, haha.  Well, I am going to go back to the lake and see if he is hanging around there, hope to see you out there too!

  1. Explore our regional parks during the month of November and try your best to find the hidden Sasquatches (2 total).
  2. Decipher the weekly clues posted on Facebook and in your local facility to help narrow your search.
  3. If you successfully find a sasquatch, use the QR code found on the sasquatch to enter the competition.
  4. All entries will be entered into a random draw for the Search for Sasquatch prizes. Max of 1 entry for each Sasquatch found.
  5. If you find a Sasquatch, do not disclose the location on social media. Please leave it where you find it so everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the search.

If you are lucky enough to come across one of our friends this season, be sure to enter the contest using the QR code found on the sasquatch to be entered in the prize drawing at the end of the competition.

Get to Know Koots and Snowball

Hi, my name is Koots, and I just wandered into the area 142 years ago to visit my cousin Snowball and satisfy my desire for outrageous adventures.  The Kootenays are the place to be when it comes to outdoor adventures and feeling that adrenaline rush as you are climbing to the tops of peaks, crashing through the river rapids or racing down the slopes in the winter.  This is truly my favorite place and the reason I haven’t gone back to my homeland in Saskatchewan.  My cousin Snowball has always been one to avoid all of you and stay hidden, and he convinced me to join him in the life of secrecy and solidarity.  But it was my idea to step out of the shadows and luckily he agreed we could stop all of the running and hiding and give you a chance to really see us.  I have always been fascinated with the level of adventure you all possess living here and hope to see you out in the wild with me!

I am not afraid to see you out in the wild, but don’t expect me to be walking down Main Street anytime soon.  Let me tell you a bit more about myself.  I am more of your typical looking Sasquatch.  I have fur as black as the night sky and stand approximately 32” on my tippy toes.  I am a born adventurer and love to get myself into some precarious situations.  No tree is too high or river to fast for me, I love living life on the edge of my seat.  Once I complete an adventure I am already planning the next one.  I will stop and enjoy the view every now and then and when I do take it easy, fishing is my favorite activity.

Good luck on your adventures and if you are quick enough, I love a good photo shoot.  See you on the trails!

Hi, my name is Snowball, and I have been a resident of the Kootenay’s for the last 373 years.  In my early years, I have always done my best to stay hidden and keep to myself, I was a lone wolf just enjoying the Kootenay life.  There have been some close calls over the years where I almost had run-ins with some outdoor adventurers, or maybe just some lost individuals, but to my knowledge, no one has ever gotten a clear picture of me, until now.  I have decided to step out of the shadows and give you a chance to find me and get that elusive photo, although I am not going to make it easy on you as I still enjoy my solidarity.

For starters, let me tell you a little about myself.  I am roughly 32” tall with a rare stark white complexion, which makes me one of the more cuddly looking sasquatches out there.  I am not as adventurous as my younger cousin Koots, who you may know, but I am not afraid to climb a tree every now and then.  My favorite spots to hang out are places where I can relax and enjoy the scenery.  I love a good mountain view, relaxing at the lake or listening to nature sounds on a nice hiking trail.  My days of high flying adventures are few and far between now, so you can find me taking life a bit slower than before.

I wish you luck on your adventure and if you are fortunate enough to spot me, feel free to hang out for a while, I might not say much but we can enjoy the beautiful area together.  See you out there!
