Strategic Community Energy and Emissions Plan (SCEEP)
Adopted in 2017, the RDCK’s Strategic Community Energy and Emissions Plan (SCEEP) outlines current energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on improving efficiency, reducing emissions, enhancing resilience, managing risks, and driving economic growth. The plan includes actions targeting buildings, transportation, and waste.
Since then, the RDCK, in partnership with FortisBC, has employed a Senior Energy Specialist (SES) to implement SCEEP recommendations and reduce energy use and carbon pollution in both corporate operations and the community.
The Senior Energy Specialist (SES) partnership with FortisBC, known as the Climate Action Partners Program, aims to help the RDCK transition to a low-carbon energy future.
Current efforts include collaborating with facility managers across the RDCK to monitor energy use, plan retrofits, explore renewable energy options, integrate electric vehicles (EVs) into the RDCK fleet, and develop a corporate EV strategy.
Community initiatives focus on expanding the regional EV charging network and supporting home energy efficiency through contractor training and the Regional Energy Efficiency Program (REEP).
