State of Climate Action in the RDCK
State of Climate Action Report Purpose
When the Board declared a climate action imperative in 2019, the RDCK began producing an annual report on climate action. The report is meant to:
- Help the RDCK track the progress towards its climate action objectives and targets.
- Evaluate and improve its climate action initiatives and efforts.
- Maintain public transparency on these processes.
- Demonstrate climate action leadership.

2021-2024 State of Climate Action (SoCA) Report
This four-year report provides a comprehensive look at RDCK climate action across the region. It is presented in three parts.
- SoCA Snapshots—an overview of pathways, key achievements, and community spotlights.
- Progress Report (2021-2024)—a detailed look at RDCK’s climate action progress along each pathway, including objectives, indicators, jurisdiction details, and annual updates.
- GHG Emissions Inventory (2023)—provides updated data for the RDCK’s unincorporated areas (community inventory) and RDCK operations (corporate inventory). By comparing these with 2018 inventories, we can assess progress towards the RDCK’s climate targets.
Annual reports on RDCK Climate Action
By tracking and reporting on climate action, the RDCK will also be able to find ways to streamline its efforts, achieve co-benefits through integration and collaboration between projects and initiatives, and optimize the use of time and resources.
