James Johnstone Regional Park is located just opposite the Nelson airstrip on the north side of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Access is via Johnstone Road. It consists of two waterfront lots totaling 1.82. acres. The park is used mainly by local residents who access it via a foot trail from Johnstone Road. It is also accessible via a short boat ride from the City of Nelson. It includes a trail head sign on Johnstone Road, and a 0.2 km. trail to the beach. Parking is adjacent to the trail head along the road right-of-way. The beach area includes an outhouse, picnic tables, fire pits, and signage.
