Wildfire Risk Reduction

Partners working together to reduce the impact of wildfire in our communities

"Wildfire does not recognize regional and municipal boundaries." ~
John Cathro

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), along with partners such as municipal governments, provincial ministries and other agencies, is committed to reducing the threat from wildfire and its impact on communities. We recognize the value of collaborating and sharing information and resources, and looking at wildfire risk from the local community level.

These efforts have coalesced into a partnership initiative involving the City of Nelson, RDCK Areas E and F, and the West Arm and Kokanee Provincial Parks named the Nelson & Area Wildfire Risk Reduction Committee.

The Nelson & Area Wildfire Risk Reduction Committee is committed to reducing the impact of wildfire in our communities. We do this by collaborating on projects, sharing information and resources, and keeping our communities informed. We also work closely with BC FireSmart, homeowners, agencies and land managers to help keep our communities safe. Visit our website to learn more about what’s being done to reduce wildfire risk in your area, and what you and your community can do to help.
