Currently there are two Evacuation Alerts in the RDCK:
- Evacuation Alert for Poplar Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D
- Evacuation Alert for Inonoaklin Creek wildfire in Electoral Area K

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is in regular communication with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) to monitor the fires within the region. There are currently 56 wildfires in the Southeast Fire Centre and 29 are listed as out of control. This is a dynamic situation that can change hourly, so residents are encouraged to be prepared and follow the BCWS website and the RDCK website for the most accurate and up to date information.
Poplar Creek Wildfire
Originally discovered on Sunday, July 26 the Poplar Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D, approximately 60 km north of Kaslo, has grown to 162 hectares. BCWS is using crews and helicopters to limit the spread of the wildfire. For the latest updates on this fire: BC Wildfire Service.
In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction was put in place by BCWS for the Poplar Creek area on August 1. Under this order, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of BCWS. Click here for the complete details of the area restriction.
Inonoaklin Creek Wildfire
Originally discovered on Saturday, July 25 the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire in Electoral Area K, northwest of the Needles Ferry, has grown to 1,223 hectares. BCWS is using heavy equipment, crews, and helicopters to limit the spread of the wildfire. For the latest updates on this fire: BC Wildfire Service.
In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction was put in place by BCWS for the Inonoaklin Creek area on July 28. Emergency Support Services
Residents on Evacuation Alert are encouraged to create a profile for Emergency Support Services (ESS) with the Evacuee Registration and Assistance (ERA) tool. Registration can be done online at https://ess.gov.bc.ca (scroll down to the preparing for and evacuation section). Residents will need to have the BC Services Card app, which is a digital ID for your mobile device and may help you receive faster service (e.g. direct deposits) when registering for ERA. If you need support setting up the app before you register for ESS call 1.888.356.2741.
ESS may provide basic support, like accommodation, food, and clothing, to people who are evacuated during an emergency event. If you have home or tenant’s insurance, please contact your insurance provider about coverage for living expenses during evacuations. There are eligibility requirements for accessing ESS and the supports provided are determined by a case-to-case basis.
