Wildfire Information Bulletin – August 7, 2026

Currently there are no Evacuation Alerts or Orders in the RDCK.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is in regular communication with BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) to monitor the fires within the region. There are currently 47 wildfires in the Southeast Fire Centre and 25 are listed as out of control. This is a dynamic situation that can change hourly, so residents are encouraged to be prepared and follow the BCWS website and the RDCK website for the most accurate and up to date information. 

Poplar Creek Wildfire 

Originally discovered on Sunday, July 26 the Poplar Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D, approximately 60 km north of Kaslo, has grown to 292 hectares. BCWS is using crews and helicopters to limit the spread of the wildfire. For the latest updates on this fire: BC Wildfire Service

In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction was put in place by BCWS for the Poplar Creek area on August 1. Under this order, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of BCWS. Click here for the complete details of the area restriction.  

The RDCK rescinded the evacuation alert for 30 properties in the Poplar Creek area on August 6. The RDCK advises people to remain vigilant in the event that conditions change, and an Evacuation Alert or Order may be re-issued, and the evacuation process will recommence. It is recommended to prepare an emergency kit and ensure preparedness, including moving pets and livestock to a safe area, in the event of another emergency. 

Inonoaklin Creek Wildfire 

Originally discovered on Saturday, July 25 the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire in Electoral Area K, northwest of the Needles Ferry, has grown to 1,223 hectares. BCWS is using heavy equipment, crews, and helicopters to limit the spread of the wildfire. Structure protection has been established in the alert area.
