Search for Sasquatch

Each week, during June, July and August, two new clues will be revealed here, on the Regional District of Central Kootenay Facebook page, and in the facility, to help narrow down Snowballs and Koots' hiding spots. If you are lucky enough to come across our friends this summer, be sure to take a photo with them to be entered in the prize drawing at the end of the summer. Contest closes September 14, 2024. Sasquatch hunters, good luck!

Start your search! Snowball and Koots will be in one of our 27 Regional Parks or the 3 Regional Trails. Find out more about our parks and trails and download a map here.

Clues

Snowballl, June 4: Hi my name is Snowball. My favorite spots to hang out are places where I can relax and enjoy the scenery.  I love a good mountain view, relaxing at the lake or listening to nature sounds on a nice hiking trail.

Koots, June 4: Hi my name is Koots. I am a born adventurer and love to get myself into some precarious situations.  No tree is too high or river to fast for me, I love living life on the edge of my seat.

Snowball, June 13: I traveled up the valley for the summer and am enjoying my time near the river.

Koots, June 13: I am hanging out in one of my favorite Valley’s, with fruit orchards as one of this areas main attractions. The cherries, apples, blueberries and raspberries keep my belly full all summer long.

Koots, June 20: With a belly full of fresh fruit from the orchards, I am enjoying my view of the farms and wetlands below.

Snowball, June 20: Even though I am a bit more mellow then my cousin Koots, whenever we have a competition I will do anything to Win.

Koots, June 27: While hanging out this summer gazing at my favorite lakes, I am reminiscing about fishing last summer at Duck Lake.

Snowball, June 27: I can hear people playing games and enjoying their time by the water, taking it easy and slowing down is the Law of the land here.

Koots, July 4: The forest around me contains massive Ponderosas and 8 of my favorite trails.

Snowball, July 4: If you are out to find me this week, do not forget your essentials, and #1 on the list should be the bug spray!

Koots, July 11: The trail I chose this time is not for the faint of heart, but it is also not considered the most difficult in the bunch either.

Snowball, July 11: I have really enjoyed seeing everyone this summer and am so impressed with this park and its accessibility to all.

Koots, July 18: I am nestled in a nice little spot just enjoying one of my favorite classic stories.

Snowball, July 18: This Nature Park can’t be beat.  With boardwalks and facts on your way to the beach.

Koots, July 25: Tromp Stomp, Tromp Stomp, who is walking on my trail.

Snowball, July 25: I am not much for sand, so I usually stay more in the trees.

Koots, August 22: I am not the only one enjoying this view, two of my friends are up here too.

Snowball, August 22: It has been a busy summer here, so I am in a perfect spot to take a rest.

Koots, August 26: If you have made it up here to see me, I may not be in plain sight, but I am not far off the trail.

Snowball, August 26: If you made it to the riverside without seeing me, keep an eye on your way back, I am hanging out by one of these 3 places to rest your legs.

Koots, August 29: It may be the easiest to find me if you sit down and take a rest after getting up here.

Snowball, August 29: Have a seat and really ponder, I may be closer than you think.

Koots, September 3: I love the main overlook, but it is a little too busy for me there, so I like to hangout down the trail less traveled.

Snowball. September 3: So you found the benches, 1, 2 and 3. I am in the middle of a thought, what could it be.

Koots, September 5: Take a seat at Billy Goat Bluffs and see what I see, but to see me check behind you.  Thanks for visiting, now I am off to somewhere new!

Snowball, September 5: I am not actually sitting, but I am behind you, so take a look.  Thanks for a great summer at the Winlaw Nature Park, it’s been one for the books!

Snowball

Hi, my name is Snowball, and I have been a resident of the Kootenay’s for the last 373 years.  In my early years, I have always done my best to stay hidden and keep to myself, I was a lone wolf just enjoying the Kootenay life.  There have been some close calls over the years where I almost had run-ins with some outdoor adventurers, or maybe just some lost individuals, but to my knowledge, no one has ever gotten a clear picture of me, until now.  I have decided to step out of the shadows and give you a chance to find me and get that elusive photo, although I am not going to make it easy on you as I still enjoy my solidarity.

For starters, let me tell you a little about myself.  I am roughly 32” tall with a rare stark white complexion, which makes me one of the more cuddly looking sasquatches out there.  I am not as adventurous as my younger cousin Koots, who you may know, but I am not afraid to climb a tree every now and then.  My favorite spots to hang out are places where I can relax and enjoy the scenery.  I love a good mountain view, relaxing at the lake or listening to nature sounds on a nice hiking trail.  My days of high flying adventures are few and far between now, so you can find me taking life a bit slower than before.

I will be hanging out in the same spot for the next 3 months, so I hope you to see many of you enjoying our beautiful trails this summer.  I wish you luck on your adventure and if you are fortunate enough to spot me, feel free to hang out for a while, I might not say much but we can enjoy the beautiful area together.  See you out there!

Koots

Hi, my name is Koots, and I just wandered into the area 142 years ago to visit my cousin Snowball and satisfy my desire for outrageous adventures.  The Kootenays are the place to be when it comes to outdoor adventures and feeling that adrenaline rush as you are climbing to the tops of peaks, crashing through the river rapids or racing down the slopes in the winter.  This is truly my favorite place and the reason I haven’t gone back to my homeland in Saskatchewan.  My cousin Snowball has always been one to avoid all of you and stay hidden, and he convinced me to join him in the life of secrecy and solidarity.  But it was my idea to step out of the shadows and luckily he agreed we could stop all of the running and hiding and give you a chance to really see us.  I have always been fascinated with the level of adventure you all possess living here and hope to see you out in the wild with me!

I am not afraid to see you out in the wild, but don’t expect me to be walking down Main Street anytime soon.  Let me tell you a bit more about myself.  I am more of your typical looking Sasquatch.  I have fur as black as the night sky and stand approximately 32” on my tippy toes.  I am a born adventurer and love to get myself into some precarious situations.  No tree is too high or river to fast for me, I love living life on the edge of my seat.  Once I complete an adventure I am already planning the next one.  I will stop and enjoy the view every now and then and when I do take it easy, fishing is my favorite activity.

For the next 3 months, I will be in one of my favorite spots, so I hope to see you there. Good luck on your adventures and if you are quick enough, I love a good photo shoot.  See you on the trails!
