Local Conservation Fund Service
What is it?
The fund will enable the RDCK to financially support important projects that conserve valuable natural areas and restore and preserve a healthy environment. Projects that address the following local priorities are eligible for support through the fund: clean water, working family farms, habitat conservation, shoreline restoration, invasive species control, and wildlife and fish species conservation. The RDCK will partner with the Kootenay Conservation Program in this endeavor.
The Local Conservation Fund Service was established in 2014 after eligible voters in Electoral Areas A, D and E went to referendum on the question as to whether or not to create the service. The referendum passed and in late 2014, the RDCK adopted the Regional District of Central Kootenay Local Conservation Fund Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2420, 2014.
No projects have been chosen for funding yet as we are currently developing the Terms of Reference for the service.
How much will it cost?
Property owners in Electoral Areas A, D and E pay an annual parcel tax of $15 per parcel of land.
All parcels are taxed at the same rate, regardless of assessed value.
What is this $.79 charge on my tax bill?
As the parcel tax will be collected through property owners' annual tax bills, the Provincial Surveyor of Taxes levies a $.79 collection fee on each parcel.
How do I pay my parcel tax?
The parcel tax will be included in your annual property tax bill.
