Stage 3 Water Conservation measures in effect for the Lister Water System

Nelson, BC: Effective immediately, mandatory Stage 3  Water Conservation Measures are being implemented for the Regional District of Central Kootenay’s (RDCK) Lister Water System. The system is located in Lister, within RDCK Electoral Area B.

The Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures have been implemented as a measure to ensure that the system has adequate water supply for wildfire protection, and to reduce the impact of high water consumption on the areas’ water table.

“The West Kootenays are currently listed at drought level three [out of five] and the Province is requesting a voluntary 30% reduction in water withdrawal on licensed water quantity,” said Steve Ethier, RDCK Water Operations Manager. “Many communities are struggling to maintain water supplies, and a collective reduction in consumption will benefit the overall water table to ensure we all have enough water for essential purposes”.

Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures include:

  • Watering of lawns is prohibited.
  • Watering of gardens, trees and shrubs ONLY between the hours of 6 am - 10 am and 8 pm - 10 pm.
  • Watering using drip irrigation, a watering can, and or hand held hose is permitted at any time.

The RDCK appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the above water conservation measures. Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures will remain in effect until further notice. Stricter water conservation measures may be required if demand increases significantly, hot and dry weather persists, or if the reservoir declines to critically low levels.

A complete list of water conservation measures for each stage is available on the RDCK website: www.rdck.ca/water
