Information Bulletin - RDCK Wildfires July 26

RE: Michaud Creek Wildfire (N51765)

The Michaud Creek Wildfire, located approximately 21 kilometres south of Edgewood, remains active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). According to BCWS, smoke is impeding air support operations. Air tankers and helicopters will return to work as soon as visibility is clear and it is safe to resume operations. While fire behaviour indicates the risk is low, conditions could change rapidly and fire behaviour could increase suddenly. A Type 1 Incident Management Team is now handling the Arrow Lake Complex (Michaud Creek wildfire, Octopus Creek wildfire, and Renata Creek wildfire). The fire is estimated to be 4,600 hectares. An Evacuation ORDER from the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) remains in place for 184 properties in the affected area south of Robinson Road and the Lower Inonoaklin-North Branch.

An Evacuation ALERT from the RDCK also remains in place for 172 properties in the area primarily north of Hwy 6 and Whatshan areas.

RE: Octopus Creek Wildfire (N51800)

The Octopus Creek Wildfire, located approximately 11 kilometres south of Fauquier and highly visible from Edgewood, Fauquier, and Needles, remains active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by the BCWS. Heavy smoke is impeding air support operations. Air tankers and helicopters will return to work as soon as visibility is clear and is deemed safe to resume operations. A Type 1 Incident Management Team is now handling the Arrow Lake Complex (Michaud Creek wildfire, Octopus Creek wildfire, and Renata Creek wildfire. The fire is estimated at 11,444 hectares. An Evacuation ORDER from the RDCK has been issued for 168 properties in the communities of Applegrove and Fauquier. The area goes from the south side of Taite Creek, including the Taite Creek recreation site north to Grassy Point.

RE: Akokli Creek Wildfire (N71686)

The Akokli Creek Wildfire, located approximately 7 kilometres from Boswell, remains active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by BCWS. The fire currently remains within the containment lines. Crews are reinforcing along the fire guard from Akokli Creek drainage to the western aspect, where the fire has come close to the containment line. Crews will remain on site over night to monitor the fire and action it where it is safe to do so. It is estimated to be 1,912 hectares. An Evacuation ALERT from the RDCK remains in place for the communities of Boswell and Sanca on the east shore of the south arm of Kootenay Lake in Electoral Area A.

RE: Trozzo Creek Wildfire (N51705)

The Trozzo Creek wildfire, located approximately 7.5 kilometres northeast of Winlaw, is active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by BCWS. Crews continue guard construction on Elliot Anderson Ridge, South Lemon drainage and along the Lemon Forest Service Road, while holding current containment lines on the west perimeter in the Trozzo drainage. An Evacuation ORDER remains in place for 32 properties in the area of Popou Road, Rooster Road, and Lemon Creek Road. An Evacuation ALERT remains in place for 142 properties. 

RE: Cultus Creek Wildfire (N71245)

The Cultus Creek Wildfire is estimated to be 2,665 hectares in size and is currently listed as out of control by the BCWS. Crews continue to mop up around structures in the Tye area. BC Parks has erected signage advising the public that Midge Creek Park is closed. The fire will be removed from the Wildfires of Note list today.

An Evacuation ALERT from the RDCK remains in place for the areas from south of Next Creek to north of Midge Creek, located in Electoral Area A on the west shore of the south arm of Kootenay Lake.

RE: Renata Creek Wildfire (N71245)

The Renata Creek wildfire is estimated at 1,970 hectares in size and is currently listed as out of control by the BCWS. The fire was discovered on July 9 and the cause was determined to be lightening. A Type 1 Incident Management Team is now handling the Arrow Lake Complex (Michaud Creek wildfire, Octopus Creek wildfire, and Renata Creek wildfire. The fire is estimated at 11,444 hectares. An Evacuation ALERT from the RDCK remains in place for the community of Renata and any other dwellings within the Evacuation Alert perimeter, on the east shore of Lower Arrow Lake in Electoral Area J.
