RE: Merry Creek Wildfire (N51165)

The Merry Creek Wildfire, located 8 kilometres SW of Castlegar, remains active and is listed as out of control by BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). An evacuation order from the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) remains in place for 31 properties and an Evacuation Alert for one property in Electoral Area J. Fire crews have made significant progress in the last 24 hours on the wildfire. Structure protection crews have been able to place resources on all homes requiring protection. According to the BCWS, the size of the fire is estimated at 15 hectares. Work has focused on danger tree assessing and falling, while helicopters continue bucketing activities.
