Robson Fire Fighters Rooftop Campout to Raise Fund for Muscular Dystrophy
September 29, 2020
Nelson, BC: This year, the Robson Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) will be hosting their 1st Annual Rooftop Campout to raise much needed funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada on October 3rd & 4th, 2020 from 8:00 AM - 8:00 AM atop Johnny’s Grocery & Gas, 2593 Broadwater Rd, Robson, BC. Many prizes will be available and proceeds from gas will be donated to the cause as well!
For more than 65 years, Fire Fighters have been supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) and Canadians impacted by neuromuscular disorders and it is a longstanding tradition that both Fire Fighters and MDC are extremely proud of. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Fire Fighters had to cancel many of their in-person Fill the Boot events, but the needs of those impacted by neuromuscular disorders cannot be cancelled. MDC still needs to provide necessary programs and services to those impacted.
To show their support for people with neuromuscular disorders, the RVFD is organizing the Rooftop Campout to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move”. A Rooftop Campout is a fundraising event where local Fire Fighters gain pledges for a 24 hour stay on a local rooftop.
Since 1954, Canadian Fire Fighters have been helping MDC fight the battle against muscular dystrophy—a group of over 100 types of neuromuscular disorders characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles. Over time, many people with neuromuscular disorders are unable to walk, speak, or ultimately breathe. Some disorders are life-threatening and presently, there is no cure. The money raised by RVFD will be donated to MDC to support their mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure.
“Each year we are absolutely blown away by the support of our community,” said Dustin LePage, RVFD Captain and Muscular Dystrophy Canada Chair. “Whether it be our annual boot drive or the Fire Fighter Games, we at the RVFD are so grateful to have a strong community there with us supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada. This year has been unique, to say the least, with having to cancel the aforementioned events. The Rooftop Campout is something we can do while following all COVID-19 health and safety protocols, so we decided to do our best to make a difference for those affected by a neuromuscular disorder.”
Make a pledge and join the RVFD this weekend in the battle against Muscular Dystrophy! Any donation would be appreciated towards this worthwhile cause.
