Robson Volunteer Fire Department celebrates 40 years serving the community and you’re invited!
July 9, 2019
Robson, BC: Come join the members of the Robson Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) at 3037 Waldie Avenue for an open house on Saturday, July 20 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Enjoy free food, fun for the kids and live entertainment, featuring Baker Street Blues!
The RVFD was established in 1979 by a very committed group of individuals, and that same spirit and drive persists in the department today. It was a very proud accomplishment then and today. The members of the RVFD are equally proud to be part of a very tight group that has an unwavering commitment to serving their community. Come tour the hall on Saturday, July 20 and join the members in celebrating this milestone. Bring the whole family for free food, kids’ games and rock out to one of the Kootenays’ top bands.
On display at the Open House will be the Firefighter Games Raffle Prize, a 2019 Polaris Razor, wrapped firefighter-games style, complete with trailer and accessories. Second prize is a one-karat diamond, donated by Launer Brothers Jewellers in Trail. The raw diamond will be customized into a piece of jewellery of the winner’s choice. Third prize, donated by Rocky Mountain Phoenix, is a classic leather Cairns firefighting helmet, also customized for the winner.
Aside from the 40-year milestone, the RVFD have plenty of reasons to celebrate with their community and beyond. Most recently, they were recognized as ”Fire Department of the Year” by Muscular Dystrophy Canada, in recognition of their tireless fundraising efforts that include the annual Boot Drive in March and the Firefighter Games over the Labour Day long weekend. The RVFD has been recognized with an award in each of the past five years since increasing their fundraising efforts. They have raised more than $76,000 during that time.
In addition to their fundraising efforts, the RVFD is consistently one of the top halls in the RDCK when it comes to achievements in training. This results in a professional response when any emergency strikes their community.
According to Chief Jeff Grant, “Thre’s no doubt the solid foundation set by those members that preceded us has made it possible to be in the position we are today. We truly have a tight-knit group that is very dedicated to the skills required to spring into action whenever the need arises. Be sure to join us for this free, family-friendly celebration.”
