The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is inviting the public to an open house to discuss the potential for developing a public boat launch on the Kootenay River in the vicinity of Blewett and Taghum. The open house will take place on Wednesday, November 8th at the Blewett Elementary School (2665 Blewett Road) from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
The RDCK is seeking input from local boating users and residents to better understand the needs of the community and to gain information and preferences about potential sites within the study area.
“It is critical to combine public input with an understanding of the considerations that are required to develop a boat launch in the study area,” says Electoral Area F Director Tom Newell.
“The community’s collective knowledge of boating in the area will be paramount in identifying a preferred boat launch site,” says Electoral Area E Director Ramona Faust.
Elise Pare from WSP Engineering will lead the open house and provide a project background and information relating to design, permitting and construction processes. A boat launch user survey will be distributed at the open house and made available to the public on the RDCK website until November 21, 2017.
The outcome of this initial phase of the feasibility study will be a report which identifies strategies and next steps for moving forward with the development of a boat launch in the study area.
