Kaslo Landslide - Evacuation Order Still in Place for Six Homes

Nelson, BC

The evacuation order for six homes below the Kaslo landslide remains in place. The properties surrounding the evacuation order still remain on evacuation alert and residents should stay vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The evacuation order and alert will remain in place for at least the next week while geotechnical engineers continue to conduct further monitoring and assessment of the slide.

Residents are encouraged to assemble a 72 hour emergency grab & go kit in the event of an evacuation. Information about a 72 hour emergency kit can be found on the RDCK website:http://www.rdck.ca/assets/Services/Emergency~Management/Documents/Individual%20Preparedness%202016.pdf

To report any debris indicators or hazards, or in the event of an emergency, residents can call the 24-hour provincial Emergency Coordination Centre toll-free number at 1-800-663-3456.

The RDCK is continuing to encourage residents to sign up for the emergency alert notification system. By signing up residents will receive a notification by text message or voice call of an emergency that could impact them.
