Emergency Alert System TEST

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has created an Emergency Alert Notification System to ensure residents and visitors are immediately notified in the event of an emergency or disaster.  The only time we will be activating this system is for a test such as this or if immediate action is required - typically an evacuation order within specific areas.

This alert system is a way of reaching out to our community to prepare for action in advance.  This will not replace a door to door evacuation should an evacuation order be activated.

We will be testing our Emergency Alert System today at 3:00 pm.  It is best practice to add the alert number 778-400-1771 to your phone or contact list so that you will recognize the number when it arrives.

We would like to remind residents there is a campfire ban throughout the Southeast Fire Centre in order to reduce the risk of human-case wildfires and to protect public safety.  The current hot and dry weather conditions have resulted in “extreme” fire danger ratings throughout the region.

The RDCK encourages residents to assemble a 72 hour GRAB & GO emergency kit in the event of an emergency and to visit the provincial government website PreparedBC.
