Village of Nakusp - Joseph Hughes
Nakusp has been a part of my story since I was a child. I have been involved in the community since grade school and asked to serve on council as it is the best way for me to give back to this community. My wife, three young children and I have called Nakusp home from the beginning.
I had the fortune of being elected and serving 2 terms on council in the past and chose not to run from 2014-2018 as my wife and I traveled with our kids in South and Central America for a year.We are a very active family frequenting our hidden spots in the summer and ski hills in the winter. I enjoy wood working and sculpting. We dabble in farming as well. We have raised cows, pigs, chickens, horses and even tried a sheep as a lawn mower for a little while. I’d love to say I am a successful gardener but I’ll stick to the fence maintenance.
Professionally I apply my business diploma and Red Seal Carpentry certification to my contract construction company which I started in 2012. I also create woodworks out of a shop I built at home utilizing 3D CNC carving tech. I have assisted my father in HVAC over the last 20 years which has allowed me to work on much of the equipment involved in the Village service portfolio, including the arena and Hot Springs.
Representative governance is a passion of mine. I challenge myself to find solutions to challenges we face in the community and defining the wishes of our constituents. Most importantly I hope you feel welcome to contact me and add to the voices represented in council discussions.
