RE: Merry Creek Wildfire (N51165)

The Merry Creek Wildfire, located 8 kilometres SW of Castlegar, is currently listed as being held by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). Crews are working on extinguishing the final hot spots and are hoping to have the wildfire completely contained by the end of the day. Overnight, Ootischenia Fire Department was called out on two separate occasions by residents in the area over concerns of hot spots. They were able to quickly locate and deal with the issues, putting the smoulders out. Both were located within the contained portion of the fire perimeter. For the most up to date information on the wildfire, refer to BCWS Wildfires of Note Page, BCWS Facebook and BCWS Twitter.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay rescinded the Evacuation Order for 31 properties and the Evacuation Alert for one property yesterday (July 3) at 12:30 pm due to the Merry Creek Wildfire. Visit www.rdck.ca/eocinfo for the complete details and Facebook and Twitter for regular updates.

The City of Castlegar also rescinded its Evacuation Alert in six areas. Check out the City of Castlegar website for more information.
