Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures in the South Slocan Water System reduced to Stage 2

Nelson, BC: Effective immediately, Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures for the South Slocan Water System have been reduced to Stage 2.On July 26, 2021 the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) issued Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures to ensure the system had adequate water supply for wildfire protection and to reduce the impact of high water consumption on reservoir levels.

“The Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures worked to reduce overall demand and return reservoir levels to appropriate operating levels for emergency use,” said Steve Ethier, RDCK Water Operations Manager. “We have had an exceptionally hot and dry season, and many communities struggled with drought conditions. The efforts made by the community to conserve water ensured that further Water Conservation Measures did not need to be implemented."

Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures include:

  • Watering of lawns, gardens, trees and shrubs is ONLY permitted between 6:00am-10:00am and 8:00pm-10:00pm.
  • Watering of gardens, trees and shrubs by watering can or hand-held hose is still permitted anytime.

The RDCK appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the above water conservation measures. Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures will remain in effect until further notice. Stricter water conservation measures may be required if demand increases significantly, hot and dry weather persists, or if the reservoir declines to critically low levels.
