Portion of Nelson-Salmo Great Northern Trail closed to motorized use

Nelson, BC: The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is closing a 22 km portion of the Nelson-Salmo Great Northern Trail to motorized use due to extreme wildfire danger. The affected portion of the trail starts at Hall Creek (north of Ymir) and runs south to Salmo. Under normal conditions, use by off-road recreational vehicles is allowed on this portion of the trail.

“Due to the current extreme wildfire risk facing much of the province, we are closing this portion of the trail to off-road and motorized vehicles until further notice,” said Joe Chirico, General Manager of Community Services at the RDCK. “Vehicles of all kinds can spark fires for a number of reasons, and this is one step we can take to help keep our trails and communities safe.”
