Evacuation Order Issued for Sheep Creek Road Area, Southeast of Salmo

The McArthur Creek wildfire (N51557) has now grown to 56 hectares and is still being responded to by BC Wildfire Service. Due to wildfire activity and forecast conditions, the Southeast Fire Centre has recommended the current active Evacuation Alert in the Sheep Creek Road area, southeast of Salmo, be immediately upgraded to an Evacuation Order to protect residents in the vicinity.

With concern for residences in the affected area, BC Wildfire Service put out a request to the RDCK Fire Services to deploy Structure Protection Units (SPUs). Crews were deployed from various RDCK fire departments which included Balfour, Beasley, Ootischenia and Tarrys Volunteer Fire Departments.

Effective immediately, the Sheep Creek Road at the Aspen FSR junction is closed. No public access is permitted on further sections of road.

The RDCK EOC is opting not to use the Emergency Notification System due to the limited number of residences that need to be evacuated.

The attached map below indicates the area of the Evacuation Order.

The RDCK EOC will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
