UPDATE - Evacuation Alert of McCormick Creek Wildfire
August 10, 2017
BC Wildfire crews continue to fight the fire in the area of McCormick Creek/Pend D’Oreille, 20 kilometres southwest of Salmo which is currently approximately 100 hectares in size. See map attached.
This fire is burning in steep terrain close to power lines and crews are working with the aid of helicopters, airtankers and heavy equipment. At this time, the fire still remains on the south side of the Salmo River.
There are still 23 residential properties that remain on Evacuation Alert. Under an Evacuation Alert, residents and visitors should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice. It is recommended to build an Emergency Kit and ensure preparedness in the event that the situation worsens, and an Evacuation Order is enforced.
The RDCK will provide further updates by 13:00 hrs tomorrow as more information becomes available from the Southeast Fire Centre.
In order to receive instant texts and voicemails in the event of an evacuation order, please ensure that you are signed up for the RDCK Emergency Alert System by visiting www.rdck.ca.
