Evacuation Alert Remains for 23 Residents South of Salmo
August 11, 2017
As of this morning, there has been no significant change to the fire burning in the area of McCormick Creek/Pend D’Oreille, 20 kilometres southwest of Salmo and remains at approximately 100 hectares in size. See map attached.
However, for precautionary measures, the Regional District of Central Kootenay continues to keep 23 residential properties on Evacuation Alert. Under an Evacuation Alert, residents and visitors should be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice. It is recommended to build an Emergency Kit and ensure preparedness in the event that the situation worsens and an Evacuation Order is declared.
The RDCK Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) staff continues to arrange pre-planning measures should an Evacuation Order is declared. The Southeast Fire Centre will be providing the current fire situation map and a projected fire behaviour map this morning. . This will determine what precautionary actions the RDCK EOC will need to take.
The RDCK EOC will provide further updates by 13:00 hrs today as more information becomes available from the Southeast Fire Centre.
