EOC UPDATE: Harrop Creek and Rapid Creek Wildfires
September 12, 2017
HARROP CREEK WILDFIRE
The BC Wildfire Service and the Central Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) communicate daily over the status of the Harrop Creek wildfire that continues to burn above the community.
At present, growth has been minimal, with no increased threat to resident safety.
Residents are reminded that they are still on Evacuation Alert and need to be prepared to leave immediately should conditions change. The Evacuation Alert will remain in place until a considerable change in fuel moisture and weather conditions are experienced.
RAPID CREEK WILDFIRE
As of September 12th, the BC Wildfire Service has advised the Central Kootenay EOC that while the Poplar Creek area received precipitation over the weekend, the Evacuation Alert will remain in place until a further change in fire conditions and / or weather is experienced in the area.
INFORMATION UPDATE FREQUENCY
For those that signed up for the designated Harrop Creek text status alerts, there has been some confusion over the frequency of those updates. In the coming days, the text status alert system, the RDCK website, and the RDCK Facebook page will only be updated when there has been a noteworthy change in the fire behavior and subsequent risk to residents, or a change in the status of the Evacuation Alert(s).
For more information, please see the BC Wildfire Current Wildfires website or contact the EOC at 352-7701.
