Queens Bay continues to be FireSmart
August 29, 2016
Queens Bay’s status as a FireSmart community has been renewed, which is a testament to the dedication of residents to prepare for the threat of wildfire.
FireSmart promotes community-wide participation in the use of FireSmart practices that cut the potential for home ignition and minimize the loss of life and property to wildfire, independent of firefighting efforts.
“By working together, the residents of Queens Bay have continued to demonstrate what can be achieved through the strength of community,” said Kelly Johnston, Executive Director of the Partners in Protection Association.
To promote and apply FireSmart principles in Queens Bay, the Residents Association created a community plan, held an education day, organized a raffle and installed a community hall sprinkler system (the latter was funded by RDCK grants).
