Kootenay residents are banned from using fireworks on private land, Crown land and in BC Parks, announced the BC Wildfire Service. Many municipalities are also prohibiting the use of fireworks; ALWAYS check with your municipal office before setting off fireworks.
Anyone found contravening this ban could be fined up to $100,000 if convicted. If fireworks are determined to cause a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and other costs.
The RDCK thanks residents for their understanding and cooperation.
Let’s keep our forests, homes and one another safe this summer!
