Public Info Meeting re: Wildfire
July 7, 2015
Residents of the Duhamel and Sitkum Creek area are invited to attend a public information meeting on Wednesday, July 8th at 7:00 p.m. at école des Sentiers-alpins (French language school, formerly A.I. Collinson) located at 2780 Highway 3A concerning the approximately 380-hectare wildfire that continues to burn.
The meeting is being hosted by the Regional District of Central Kootenay. Officials from the BC Wildfire Service will be present to answer questions regarding the Duhamel/Sitkum Creek wildfire.
Residents in the area are still on evacuation alert. Currently, there is no immediate threat to structures.
Approximately 350 residences are in the affected area. The evacuation alert will be in effect until further notice. Such a measure alerts residents and visitors within the impacted area to be prepared to evacuate if ordered to do so by emergency officials.
The BC Wildfire Service reports that the fire is holding within retardant lines. The Service has 49 firefighters on the ground fighting the blaze as well as air support.
The RDCK will continue to update the public as information becomes available. Please check our website at www.rdck.ca and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/rdcentralkootenay.
