Slocan Park Wildfire: Evacuation Alert Still in Place

Nelson—Residents of Slocan Park and Crescent Valley in the vicinity of a wildfire burning on the east side of the valley are still on evacuation alert.

As of 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5th, the Southeast Fire Centre had dispatched a 20-person ground attack crew, five helicopters and two small bombers to the site. The agency has also requested the assistance of a tanker and a Type 1 Provincial Incident Management Team is en route to the area.

“The Southeast Fire Centre is giving it everything they’ve got,” said Terry Swan, the RDCK’s regional fire chief. “Weather permitting, we hope the fire will be manageable very soon.”

The RDCK has asked residents who own livestock to move their animals to safe locations and to pack some belongings in case of evacuation.

The RDCK will continue to provide information as it becomes available.
