Recycling Depots in the Nelson Area

NELSON— On July 8th the new Grohman Narrows Transfer Station, located on Insight Drive off Highway 3A will open to the public. The Grohman site will accept waste for disposal and has a public recycling area (no commercial cardboard accepted). For public convenience, the primary recycling depot for public drop-off of bluebag materials and cardboard (residential and commercial) remains at the Lakeside Drive location in Nelson.

The last operational day for waste disposal at the Nelson Transfer Station will be Saturday July 5th. The public should be aware that both sites will be closed on Sunday July 6th and Monday July 7th for the operational transition. Convenient recycling services on Lakeside Drive will be available to for public and commercial recycling at the front of the site on July 8, 2014 and beyond.

Both recycling depots accept:   
 - Paper
 - Cardboard
 - Newspaper
 - Tin
 - Glass
 - Plastics #1-7 (including plastic film)

RDCK depots do not accept Styrofoam or Aerosol cans. 

Note that commercial recycling is accepted at the Lakeside Drive site only. Both sites will be accessible to the public Monday-Saturday 8:30-4:00pm after July 8th, 2014.

Since the launch of the new Multi Material BC (MMBC) Packaging and Printed Paper Stewardship Program on May 19, 2014 all RDCK recycling depots have continued to operate status quo. The RDCK does not anticipate any changes to the RDCK recycling depot program until there is an opportunity to join the MMBC program at the earliest in mid-2015.
