Environmental Education

Since 2009, the RDCK has financially supported the Wildsight Beyond Recycling program which provides environmental education in local elementary schools.

Beyond Recycling is a classroom-based environmental education program developed and delivered by Wildsight. Using the Ecological Footprint as a central theme, the program encourages students to think ‘beyond’ simply recycling for effective and positive environmental action and solutions for living sustainably. This interactive program complements BC Ministry of Education curriculum, providing opportunities for teachers to incorporate the activities and lessons into their own teaching. Beyond Recycling educators visit participating classes once a week from October through May. In 2016/2017, the program will deliver 22 weekly lessons to 9 participating grade 4, 5 and 6 classes in 6 schools within the RDCK. Find out more about the Wildsight Beyond Recycling program
